Class Objective– Pure Abstracting. Abstracting Composition using organic materials and black gesso. How to create abstract paintings with focus on shapes, balance and color. Give yourself permission to find that inner voice using elements of nature and natural methods to coax out or spark the artist within. Step-by- step instruction focuses on form, line, and comfortable strokes. Questions are welcome in class.
Paint Colors – Regarding paint, bring the paints that you have. Only 2 types of Paint are required. Black gesso in the jar and the curved palette knife to scoop it out with. If you are not sure, you can go to DK Art Supply and Dennis will pick them out for you. No stress. They are all on sale. In the painting shown I used black gesso, magenta, green, indian yellow, white, a ruler and black paint in a very small squeeze bottle (a large bottle will not work) .
Special Supplies for this class – regarding special supplies bring a pencil or a charcoal pencil. You will need a canvas or canvas board to paint on. Small squeeze bottle. See picture. The usual painters supply like a table cloth, water bucket, paper towels, painter’s palette are listed on the main page of this website.
See the main page for basic supplies that artists use such as plastic tablecloths, paints, a canvas, a Masterson small travel pallet, easel, (you will be painting flat most of the time),bucket for water, brushes.
