Caught In The Weeds

Focusing on negative painting, perspective, and/or balance relative to elements found in and around water.

Whether it is a memory of a vacation on a beach, snorkeling in the ocean, enjoying a cruise or simply a place where you live, these images create a happy sense of peace. By painting the area around the object, negative painting gradually reveals itself. Or, take it a step further by using a muted color to paint sky holes around a tree where dry acrylics darken and tighten up on the canvas. The tree is automatically in the distance and becomes a soft focus.  Any area of the canvas can use this negative painting technique to inch out the focal points the artist favors to be most important. Claude Monet incorporated this in many of his paintings with his connection to nature.
