In this class, we’ll dive deep into the beauty of seascapes, exploring unique and creative approaches to capturing the ever-changing nature of water. Each wave painting session offers a fresh perspective, broadening your understanding of how to approach and interpret the sea from different angles. If you’re eager to paint a seascape that truly embodies the design principle of repetition with variation, and harness the magic of transparent color, this class will provide the tools and guidance to bring your vision to life.

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist, you’ll feel right at home. No prior experience is needed—just bring your passion for the ocean and a willingness to explore new techniques. This class is open to all levels, and we’re here to help you create seascapes that are not only visually stunning but rich with emotion and meaning.

Supplies:

Prepare your artistic away from home space with the essentials:

Paint your canvas with a very thin layer of light cadmium orange or use your Daler Rowney orange. You should be able to see through the paint if you apply it with your chip brush. Let dry overnight. Many of you have most of these paint colors. Check them.

  • Table Setup: We use the same simple supplies that follow, in most classes.
  • Canvas:  any  rectangular no larger than  apx 18″ x 24″, unless you consider yourself an expert at secapes.
  • Paper Towels: Essential for dabbing and blending, ensuring your colors harmonize effortlessly. Absolute must.
  • Plastic table cloth: dollar store
  • Container for water: Larger than a cup
  • Palette Paper and Palette Knife: Provide the perfect surface for mixing your palette of aquatic shades.
  • Easel: Elevate your painting experience with the support of a sturdy easel.
  • Paint colors
    • white – artist loft brand or Amsterdam titanium white
    • phthalo blue- green shade – Liquitex professional brand or Amsterdam brand (called greenish blue)
    • phthalo – green yellow shade Liquitex professional brand (not necessary – optional)
    • light primary yellow – Amsterdam brand
    • dark hue hooker green, Liquitex  professional brand only (it will look black not green when you open the tube)
    • primary red – Amsterdam brand
    • ultra marine- Amsterdam brand
    • Naples Yellow – Amsterdam brand
    • raw sienna – Amsterdam brand
    • burnt umber- Amsterdam brand
  • Brushes –1- a soft wash brush, a firmer flat chiseled edge acrylic brush (long brown handle Princeton) , 2 – firm acrylic flat brush, a 1” chip brush, 1- liner brush, round pottery sponge or a tiny fan brush
  • Charcoal Stick – for sketching
