What’s in it for me – Exhibitions, International Shows? Artists- Article 5
Will Artist Support and Help Each Other? The answer, hands down is “Yes”.
It was so exhilarating and refreshing to have this wonderful experience while touring in international exhibitions, this year. Artists at this level are filled with joy, moving so fast that they do not have time to dwell or get caught up in any form of negativity. They simple go from action to result nothing in the middle has time to form. Here is how it works. Something takes place. The artists and/or gallery take action, teaming together to find the quickest most positive solution. Then, move on to the next item on the list. The successful players in this, art circuit (chessboard) seem to be the ones putting the “team” in the phrase, “team player”. We are truly all in it to win but most importantly we are in it together. There is no room for self-centered actions on anyone’s part. If one person in the ladder; artist, gallery, promoter or collector, does well, we all do well. If one person falls down then we all suffer.
This is why the gallery expertise is a win-win for exhibitions and shows. The gallery chooses a group of revolving artists that are compatible and willing to help each other. They jump in unselfishly with a word of support or if need be, physically, with a hammer and nails. The seasoned artists help the newbies. For this reason if you join the right team you are safe. That means safe with your emotional experience as well as you purse contents. You will want to honor the fact that the more successful your new friend “artist”, gets – the busier they get. Be careful to be considerate of their time. Ask the right person the right questions. The art business is a business. Your career success depends on being in the right place at the right time.
It’s easy to get distracted. There is always something, someone, or some social activity that can eat up your time or worse take you down a road that is in a contrary direction. Stay focused and committed to your goals and dreams. Revisit your goals as often as you update your biography/CV (curriculum vitea). With all this great talk of love, the wise ones have always said, “tie you horse”. This means, the art world can sweep you off your feet. Ultimately, if you don’t tie your horse, he won’t be standing there when you need him to take your somewhere.
Along this yellow brick road you, “artist”, are making an agreement with everyone you encounter. If an agreement is not honored, deal with it with as much grace as possible. Let it go. Smile like the prince or princess that you are. Find the good thing that ALWAYS comes from every experience. The international art circuit may cover a lot of miles but in truth it is a super small world.
