In this class, we’ll tap into your unique creative energy and use specific design principles to guide you in creating an abstract painting that is entirely your own. This is a space where your imagination takes center stage, and we’ll dive into a process that helps bring your personal style to life. You’ll learn how to unlock your own creative potential through a format that encourages self-expression, allowing you to discover a style that is as distinct and vibrant as you are.

No previous experience is necessary—this class is for everyone. Whether you’re picking up a brush for the first time or you’ve been painting for years, you’ll find a welcoming environment where you can explore and grow. Together, we’ll build something beautiful, where every stroke is a reflection of your own creative journey. All levels are welcome to join and create something truly meaningful.

Supplies:

Prepare your artistic away from home space with the essentials:

  • Table Setup: We use the same simple supplies that follow, in most classes.
  • Canvas: Select your preferred canvas size to capture the essence of your underwater masterpiece. I used a square canvas 20″ x 20″
  • Paper Towels: Essential for dabbing and blending, ensuring your colors harmonize effortlessly. Absolute must.
  • Palette Paper and a Palette Knife: Provide the perfect surface for mixing your palette of aquatic shades.
  • Plastic table cloth: dollar store
  • Container for water: Larger than a cup
  • Easel: Elevate your painting experience with the support of a sturdy easel.
  • Paint colors
    • white – artist loft brand or Amsterdam titanium white
    • black – Amsterdam brand
    • any colors 3 colors that appeal to you  – Amsterdam paint
        • I used cobalt, greenish blue (or any transparent blue-ish color), raw sienna, burnt sienna, 2 primary and names yellows, orange,  from Amsterdam. The  hooker green deep only is from the Liquitex professional tubes brand.
    • Brushes –1- a soft wash brush,  – firm acrylic flat brush (please no silver handled brushes as they are all too soft), a 2” chip brush, 1- liner brush, small firm round pointed brush, the fan brush is not necessary for this class. If you do get one it should be the tiny brush. The medium fan brushes are not useful for any of our classes.
    • Art Crayon– white and black. I used the marabu brand from the Michaels store
    • Amsterdam paints come in small tubes for $3.99 each. Michaels carries the small tubes but not in every color.
    • A charcoal stick to draw with is important.
