Approaching Wave Painting-The Villages Enrichment Academy

Master the art of painting an approaching wave by exploring the power of contrasting cool colors. In this class, students will learn how to create depth and dynamic movement through layered paint application. By building rich shadows, luminous midtones, and expressive highlights, you’ll develop a sense of motion while bringing the wave to life. All skill levels are welcome. Just bring your passion and a willingness to explore new techniques. This class is open to all levels, and we’re here to help you create a moving seascape. Registration is not until after Meet the teacher day on Sept 18ish.
Supplies:
Prepare your artistic away from home space with the essentials:
- Table Setup: We use the same simple supplies that follow, in most classes.
- Canvas: Brig one canvas. 16″ x20″ Don’t go too big, unless you consider yourself advanced.
- Paper Towels: Essential for dabbing and blending, ensuring your colors harmonize effortlessly. Absolute must.
- Plastic table cloth: dollar store
- Container for water: Larger than a cup
- Palette Paper and Palette Knife: Provide the perfect surface for mixing your palette of aquatic shades.
- Easel: Elevate your painting experience with the support of a sturdy easel.
- Paint colors–
- white – artist loft brand or Amsterdam titanium white
- phthalo blue- green shade – Liquitex professional brand or Amsterdam brand (called greenish blue)
- light primary yellow – Amsterdam brand
- dark hue hooker green, Liquitex professional brand only (it will look black not green when you open the tube)
- primary red – Amsterdam brand
- ultra marine- Amsterdam brand
- raw sienna – Amsterdam brand
- Brushes –1- a soft wash brush, a firmer flat chiseled edge acrylic brush (long brown handle Princeton) , 2 – firm acrylic flat brush, a 1” chip brush, 1- liner brush, round pottery sponge or a tiny fan brush. Seas sponge with sharp points is a nice optional addition.
- Charcoal Stick – for sketching
